Senate Committee told million railroad employees back Crosser-Wagner Pension Bill. Washington, D.C., May 15. Appearing as the first witness in favor of the Crosser-Wagner Railroad Pension Bill, George M. Harrison, President of the Railway Clerks Association and Chairman of the Railway Labor Executives Association, today told the house Interstate Commerce Committee that 1,500,000 railroad employees favor this new bill which if passed, will replace the present Railroad Retirement Act. Harrison added there was "no doubt of its constitutionality" and that it had been worked out with railroad managements on the understanding that it would not be attacked in courts by them. Wagner of New York, author of the Wagner Labor Relations Act, and Senator David I. Walsh, (right) of Massachusetts, who sponsored the bill in the United States Senate. They were together as they heard the Supreme Court uphold the validity of the act today--unanimously in the cases of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp., and the Washington, Virginia and Maryland Coach Co. Frank Foley, officer on duty at the entrance of the Senate office building from 8-4, kept a record today of the number of questions asked him. Admits "kicking back" part of salary. Washington, D.C., April 22. He "turned back" $75 of his $200 per month salary, Henry M. Lewis former Deputy Sheriff in Harlan County, Ky., told the Senate Civil Liberties Committee as it resumed its investigation of alleged terrorism in connection with Harlan County Coal Operators' efforts to resist union organization drives. The money was returned to Sheriff Theodore R. Middleton each month in 1935 and 1936. Lewis added that many of the men listed as drawing salaries from the Sheriff's office were not regarded as regular employees, and several of them worked for coal companies, 4/22/1937
