Italian farmettes. In America they would be "farmerettes" but in Italy they cling to the "eternal feminine" and their bright colored kerchiefs. Even without the prescribed "costume" they are rapidly becoming experts in poultry raising and other branches of farming, including scientific soil treatment, soil production and ploughing. At one of the Junior Red Cross of America Agricultural Colonies that are helping to raise lonely war orphans out of poverty and beggary, these little Perugian girls are up at dawn every day going about their rabbit hutches and poultry yards. Once these duties are finished they turn their attention to cheesmaking, milking, and cooking, for nothing is left out of the day's routine that would make for efficiency of modern farmers

Soap not soup. At the Junior Red Cross of America Orphanage and Agricultural School in Collestrada, Italy, soap making is in the "curriculum." Boys and girls war-worn and alone in the world are being trained in this school for occupations that will fit them for Italy's skilled workers of the future. Farming, polutry and cattle raising, soil treatment are the main studies, branching off into domestic science, cheese-making and milking for the more delicate girls
