Shot by own police declares Republic Steel Corp. official. Washington, D.C., Aug. 9. Carl. W. Meyers, district manager for Republic Steel Corp. at Canton Ohio, today told the Senate Civil Liberties Committee that he was shot by one of his own police officers during the steel strike in 1937. He said a company officer guarding his home asked him a question as he approached, and that he replied "this is MR. Meyers". The man however, he added, did not understand him and at 75 feet shot him. Meyers named the man as "Edwin Bank," 8/9/38
