New use for surplus cotton. Washington, D.C., Sept. 1st. In connection with the program of the A.A.A. to divert surplus cotton from the normal channels of trade for the purpose of developing new commercial uses for cotton and cotton materials, apiculturists of the Dept. of Agriculture at the Beltsville, MD. experimental station are testing the use of cotton fabric as a protective covering for the hives of bees. The hive coverings are designed to protect the bees from cold during the winter hibernation period. Dr. W.J. Nolan, of the Dept. of Agriculture is shown placing cotton around one of the hives, 9/1/38
