Buffalo, New York. A scooper unloading a grain boat from Duluth at a grain elevator on the Erie Canal. Scoopers are hired at each port to aid the crew in loading and unloading. They guide the ropes of the shovel which scoops the grain into range of the "leg" which draws grain into elevator by means of an endless belt of buckets. They sweep and shovel grain from corners and ledges of the hatch after the unloading is practically finished
