Gordon Bennett International Balloon Trophy goes to U.S. Army Air Corps. The Gordon Bennett International Balloon Trophy, property of the National Aeronautic Association by virtue of three victories by American Balloonists, was today presented to Assistant Secretary of War for Aviation F. Trubee Davison for the Army Air Corps for a year by Orville Wright, secretary of the Contest Committee of the Association An Army pilot, Captain W.G. Kemper, secured the trophy for America by winning the race from Detroit last year. President Coolidge presents Collier Trophy to New York man for most outstanding achievement in aviation for 1927. The much coveted Collier Trophy which is awarded annually for the most outstanding achievement in aviation was presented to Charles L. Lawrence of New York by President Coolidge at the White House today. Mr. Lawrence is the builder and designer of the famous whirlwind motors and was awarded the Trophy for 1927 for his development of them. The Collier trophy is awarded to Uncle Sam's Department of Commerce for 1928. The Collier trophy, which is awarded annually by the National Aeronautic Association to the person or organization for the "greatest achievement in aviation in America, the value of which has been demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year" was presented to the United States Department of Commerce today by President Coolidge. The Aeronautics Branch of the Department of Commerce received the trophy because of its valuable contribution to the furtherance of civil aeronautics. In the picture left to right, can be seen Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Aviation, William McCracken (right) receiving the trophy from President Coolidge [White House, Washington, D.C.]

The Navy returns President's Cup to Marine Corps football team. The Marines Corps defeated the United States Coast Guard eleven at Griffith Stadium today in Washington 18-0, thereby again gaining possession of the President's Cup which was won last year by a team representing the Navy. The Navy not having a team this year turned the Cup over to the Coast Guard and in this picture Admiral Charles F. Hughes, chief of Naval Operations, is presenting the trophy to Fullback O'Neill, captain of the Marine team. Admiral Billard, commandment of the U.S. Coast Guard, and General W.C. U.S. Flyers win Mackay Award. Washington, D.C., May 8. Nine officers and enlisted men of the U.S. Air Corps were today presented with the Mackay trophy for 1936 as a reward for the heroic flight under unfavorable weather conditions from Langley Field, Virginia, to Allecan, Mich., last August. The trophy, which is awarded annually for the most meritorious air plane flight of the year, was presented to the flyers at Bolling Field, D.C., by Maj. General Malin Craig, U.S. Chief of Staff.
