John Huggins. Said he is fourteen years old and has been doffing for eight months in the Guadalupe Valley Cotton Mills. Violation of law. Gets a dollar a day now. Before he came here, he worked in the cotton mill at West, Tex., for five or six years. Said boys work in the Cuero mill under age. "They don't even bother to ask your age. Didn't ask mine. Easy 'nuff to git a job." The mills were not running on account of floods this week. I found only one other boy under age, "Spider" Estes said he is fourteen years old and been working here, doffing one year. Location: Cuero, Texas.

Charlie and Ollie Allen. Been working in Harriet Cotton Mills 2 years. Charlie is probably of age, but Ollie is a violation according to both his brother and life insurance policy which say he is 12 years old now. These statements are based on the parents' statement, which is probably high. He appears to be 10 years old, and has been working 2 years. His father and older brother are in the mill. They have a house full of children, and the sanitary conditions are frightful. Location: Henderson, North Carolina.

In spotlight at Senate Railroad Inquiry. Washington, D.C., Dec. 17. J.J. Anzalone, President of the Mid-America Corp., and Comptroller for many Van Swerigan companies, was questioned today by Chairman Burton K. Wheeler at the Senate Railroad financing inquiry. Anzalone told the committee of an option agreement between the Allegheny Corp., former Van Swerigan top holding Co., and the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Feb. 1, 1932 under which C&O agreed to buy 382,000 shares of Erie and Nickel Plate Railroad stock for $5,062,000. Chairman Wheeler attempted to show that this deal was a violation of the Sherman [Anti]-trust law

Auto manufacturers send representative to tell of Labor Act's 'glaring weaknesses.' Washington, D.C., June 27. The automobile manufacturers' associations, represented by William J. Cronin, its secretary, told the Senate Education and Labor Committee that the present Wagner Labor Act is surrounded by 'glaring weaknesses.' Reviewing sit-down strikes, he said that General Motors plants had alone had 40,000 workers idle and had a payroll reduction of more than $10,000,000 as a result of sit-down strikes. He recommended amendments to allow workers to choose bargaining agents without interference, and a clause to make both parties of agreements equally liable for violation. He is shown here pointing out enlarged clippings from the Detroit news which reproduced enlarged 'mugs' from police files to show certain leaders of automobile labor to have criminal records
