Drop ut, idjut, whispered a voice in her ear

(DLC/PP-1933:0079). Forms part of: Cabinet of American illustration (Library of Congress). Published in: "A Study in Values" by Emma Kaufman, Collier's weekly (Aug. 12, 1905), p. 11.

In center of the picture is Phoebe Thomas, 8 year old Syrian girl, running home from the factory all alone, her hand and arm bathed with blood, crying at the top of her voice. She had cut the end of her thumb nearly off, cutting sardines in the factory, and was sent home alone, her mother being busy. The loss of blood was considerable, and might have been serious. (See succeeding photos.)  Location: Eastport, Maine.

Burlingham, appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee today to voice his opposition to President Roosevelt's court reorganization plan. Burlingham told the Committee that liberals, radicals and labor "May curse the day," when the president's judiciary plan was conceived. Burlingham said that he could think "of only one other Attorney General--whom I will not name--would not have resigned rather than condone or have any part or lot in such a shabby enterprise" as the court bill, 4/6/1937

Boxes placed in Smithsonian in 1881 by telephone inventor opened for first time. Washington, D.C., Oct. Three boxes which Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, and two associates placed in the secret archives of the Smithsonian Institution in 1881 and which have remained [un][?]opened since, were formally opened today in the presence of Bell's two daughters and a group of scientists. The boxes contained among other things the original working model of the first machine ever to record on wax and reproduce the Human voice.
