Augusta Water Works, Goodrich Street extension, Augusta Canal, Augusta, Richmond County, GA

description

Summary

Significance: When completed in 1899, the Augusta Water Supply system was one of the best in the South and one of the cheapest in the United States. The Raw Water Pumping Stations have always pumped canal water; some stations still use canal water to power the pumps. The complex is also significant because it illustrates the application of three types of power water, steam, and electric to the operation of pumps.
