Significance: Erected in 1925 by Gulf Oil Company, this service station exemplifies a building type which evolved as a result of demands from the growing automobile industry and the public it served. In continuous use as a Gulf Oil Company service station, this property was purchased from Gulf Oil Company in 1948 by Ira Smith, the present owner. Known as Bethel Gulf Service, the station is currently operated by Bethel Honeycutt.
