Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Bridge, Spanning Eagle River, Eagle River, Vilas County, WI

Significance: The Chicago and Northwestern (CNW) Railroad Bridge is a 337', multi-span, riveted, steel, deck plate girder structure that was constructed in 1902. Built by the American Bridge Company, the trestle is significant as a component of the railway line that promoted the development of Eagle River. Indeed, the CNW provided access to much of northern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, thus spurring the development of logging and tourism industries in the region. The growth of Eagle River in teh late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries was attributable to these industries.
