Summary
A large, banner-style campaign poster for the 1848 Democratic ticket. Bust portraits of the two candidates, Cass and Butler, are framed by oak leaves and acorns, symbols of the Democratic party. Above the portraits is a bald eagle holding a large American flag. From behind the eagle emanate rays of light and stars. Below the portraits are two large cornucopias, and a number of agricultural and industrial tools and implements. These include a sheaf of wheat, hammers, gear-wheel, a drawing of a column, and so forth. On a shield below is the Democratic motto, "Principles, Not Men." Around the shield's base grow two corn stalks.
