Significance: Spooner Hall was financed by William B. Spooner, a Boston merchant, with a bequest of $91,000. In 1893, "Van Brunt & Howe Architects" of Kansas City were commissioned to design the building as the first university library. It was dedicated on October 10, 1894. It served as the library until 1924. Since then it has housed the Thayer Art Collection until 1979 and is now the Museum of Anthropology.
