Steamboat COLUMBUS, Submerged south-southeast of Point Lookout, Scotland, St. Mary's County, MD

The wreck of the COLUMBUS was designated AWOIS #7421 in the Automated Wreck and Obstruction Information System. Site number 18ST625 was also assigned.

Significance: The paddle-wheel steamboat COLUMBUS was one of two ships launched in 1828 for the Maryland and Virginia Steam Boat Company. The engine of the COLUMBUS is the only recovered crosshead engine in the United States and one of the earliest surviving marine engines of any type in the country.
