The race problem during American Civil War

description

Summary

Williams reproduces two letters here. The first -- an open letter to the Chicago daily tribune -- protests the treatment of African Americans since the Civil War and asking when a so-called Christian people will overcome their prejudice against blacks. The second letter is a response to Gov. Chandler of Georgia blaming southerners for creating the "race problem" in the South, not northern "fools and fanatics" as Chandler has alleged.
