Verde River Sheep Bridge, Spanning Verde River (Tonto National Forest), Cave Creek, Maricopa County, AZ
Summary
Significance: In 1943, Dr. R.O. Raymond, a physician and sheep rancher from Flagstaff, Arizona, sponsored the construction of Verde River Sheep Bridge on grazing allotment granted to his Flagstaff Sheep Company in Bloody Basin by Tonto National Forest. The bridge was utilized by Raymond and other sheep ranchers when sheep were trailed between summer ranges in the mountains of northern Arizona and winter pastures in the Verde River Valley.
