Christ Church, State Route 3, Kilmarnock, Lancaster County, Virginia
Summary
Significance: Finished in 1735, Christ Church is one of the most sophisticated works of architecture produced in colonial Virginia. The entire structure displays a craftsmanship unparalleled in the annals of church building in seventeenth and eighteenth-century Virginia. The best preserved of Virginia's Anglican parish churches, Christ Church today affords visitors a rare look into a building that has changed little since Robert Carter's sons helped complete it three years after their father's death.
