Hornet Ranger Station, Corral, Forest Service Road No. 50002, Council, Adams County, ID

Significance: The Hornet Ranger Station forms important historical associations with two federal agencies: the U.S. Forest Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Both of these agencies were instrumental in the regional development of the West during the first half of the twentieth century. / The oval-shaped corral consists of a post and rail log fence, loading pen and chute, and a metal gate. It was built in 1933 as part of a cooperative project between personnel of the Weiser National Forest and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The corral measures approximately 50 feet in diameter at its widest point; the average height is 5.5 feet. It was used in the handling of the horses and other livestock essential in the administration of the Ranger Station. It is located adjacent to, and incorporated a portion of, the Barn (removed in 1991) in the working portion of the complex.
