Kangxi zi dian cuo yao : bu fen juan

Printed on Wan-nian Red Paper, which originated in Guangdong in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) and was intended to prevent insect damage; the main content of the coating is Pb3O4. Characters are arranged in radical order, following Kangxi zi dian. Textual interpretations of ancient documents tend to be brief and straightforward; several notations also provide pronunciation in other languages.

Weigel in Leipzig. / 1881." 書名葉亦用萬年紅紙灯，中題康熙字典撮要灯，右上題光緖四年灯，左下題廣東倫敦教會藏本灯。版心上題康熙字典撮要灯，中題部首，下題每卷頁碼。萬年紅紙灯是明清時廣東一帶出現的一種防蟲紙，塗料主要成份為四氧化三鉛（紅鉛丹, i.e. Pb3O4），多用作扉葉， 既美觀，又可防止蟲蟻蠹蝕，保護書籍。正文卷首額題康熙字典撮要灯，下署英國湛約翰創著，南海王揚安述釋灯。卷前有《書法》，《聲母總目》，《檢字》，後附《康熙字典撮要總音表》，含《凡例》、《韻府通表》、《總音表》、《發口字四表》、《北音通韻表》、《正音通韻表》、《南音通韻表》、《續凡例》。本書所收各字皆依《康熙字典》部首排列，釋文則略其繁瑣引證古籍，而取其最核心者，簡明扼要。卷前《總音表》於音韻用力頗勤，所謂古音是唐宋之音，北音則北京音，南音則廣東音，而正音則江河間之音，有些表下又附西文注音，以利西人學習.
