The preface of this manuscript states that the work was written by Nan Huairen (Ferdinand Verbiest) who came to China from the West. The first half of this book contains fifteen articles about geography and people; the second half introduces, in text and illustration, the countries, customs and architectural highlights of the five continents.

八行二十字 註雙行三小字. Eight lines, with twenty characters per line; notes above in double lines of three small characters.
此書《四庫全書》收錄内府藏本。《提要》云："國朝南懷仁撰。懷仁西洋人，康熙中官欽天監監正。是書上卷自《坤與》至《人物》，分十五條，皆言地之所生。下卷載海外諸國道里、山川、民風、物產，分為五大州，而終之以《西洋七奇圖說》。大致與艾儒略《職方外紀》互有出入，而亦時有詳略異同".
此鈔本上卷條目同四庫，但較通行四庫本多《中國與外國在坤輿圖内布列之理》一節共三葉。葉三末尾題："康熙甲寅歲日躔娵訾之次治理曆法，極西南懷仁立法。"邵懿辰《四庫簡明目錄標註》謂是書有"萬曆甲寅刊本"，按南懷仁生於公元1623年，當天啟三年，已晚於萬曆，應邵氏將康熙誤作萬曆所致。上卷細目標於版匡之上，下卷僅有異物圖，上圖下文，繪製較細.
卷末《七奇圖說》，記有亞細亞州巴必鸞城，二銅人巨像，利未亞洲厄日多國孟斐府尖形高臺，亞細亞州嘉畧省茅索祿王塋墓，亞細亞州厄弗俗府供月祠廟，歐羅巴州亞加亞省供木星人形之像，法羅海島高臺，即古代世界七大奇跡。末另附古羅馬角鬥場，均圖文各一葉.
