Melrose, Natchitoches, Parish, Louisiana. "African" house, probably a storeroom, smokehouse or jail when originally built by mulattoes, now part of John Henry cotton plantation. He purchased it from the Metoyier family in 1833 (see general caption). It was built and owned by them
