description

Summary

Significance: This 1,800,000 bushel (2,250,000 cubic feet) capacity grain storage facility was originally built as part of the New York State Barge Canal system. It comprises 120 circular reinforced concrete bins. The site also includes a 550 foot long grain pier and delivery gallery and two deep-sea ship berths dredged to a thirty-two foot depth. Deactivated from service since 1965, this facility is a good representative example of a 20th century grain storage complex.
