Old Beaufort Jail, Courthouse Square on Cedar Street, Beaufort, Carteret County, NC
Summary
Significance: Built in 1836 by Elijah White Hurst, located on the northeast side of the courthouse square. The long porch which originally existed on the front of the building has since been removed. There was a trap door on the second floor, used for hanging, which has been filled in. The original stair rail has also been replaced. Other than these exceptions the building remains essentially the same.
