description

Summary

See HAER MI-416, Detroit's Milwaukee Junction Survey, for additional information.
Significance: Erected in 1908 by the Trippensee brothers, an addition was completed in 1915. Part of the need for this expansion was that the Trippensee brothers had started manufacturing auto bodies between 1913 and 1916. By 1921, Trippensee Manufacturing was creating bodies for Fisher, Chrysler, the Rickenbacker Motor Car Company, and several otherse. The company primarily manufactured open-body cabs until 1923, when it merged with the Everett Brothers Corporation to form Trippensee Closed-Body Company. Within four years, however, the company had abandoned the factory. Various tenants have utilized the Pioneer Building; it currently houses artist's studios.
