description

Summary

See also HABS MS-273 for additional documentation.
Significance: Significant as a vernacular form and as a symbol of the contribution made by the local Black community to the history of Biloxi. Biloxi was favored by newly freed Blacks both because of job availability and because the old seaport already supported a heterogeneous population including "free men of color" and provided a Latin tolerance for cultural variations.
