The pattern (left) is first placed face up, and the flask (iron cast on conveyor) placed over it. Special sand is tightly rammed into the flask; then this machine inverts the assembly and withdraws the pattern as shown, leaving a perfect mold. Location: a large Midwest machine tool plant
