Summary

Significance: It is an unusually well-preserved example of a type of structure that played a vital role in fire prevention efforts in national forests from the 1930s up to the 1970s. The tower was constructed in 1937 by enrollees in the CCC, and emergency relief program that operated from 1933-1942. The tower and its story is typical of CCC operations, but unique to the Wayne National Forest. The tower is highly significant as the only surviving representative of four similar structures built in the forest from 1937-40...
