South Meeting House, Meeting House Hill, facing Marcy Street, Portsmouth, Rockingham County, NH
Summary
Significance: This is one of the landmarks of Portsmouth. It replaced the Old South Meeting House built in 1731, which was demolished in 1863. Its steeple can bee seen by mariners far at sea, and was their guide for entering Portsmouth Harbor.
