St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, Dick Tomb, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA
Summary
2003 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Entry
Significance: After examining obituaries, City Directories and cemetery records, no information was found about the owners of this tomb. Examining the sketchbook of de Pouilly yielded some light about the attribution of the structure on stylistic grounds, although no direct drawing of this tomb was found. One possible explanation to how this tomb came about was that it was built for wealthy patrons not originally from New Orleans who died during one of the yellow fever epidemics, leaving no surviving relatives.
