Why call a taxi when you can be wheeled around in royal state in this victoria with the velvet robed driver for twenty cents an hour. Every one can be a prince or princess for an hour Type of Roumanian peasant girl. Upon her wedding day an olive twig must be held over her head by one of the men attendants and if once it is dropped, even during the dancing and feasting, bad luck will be her lot and the gaiety will be dispelled in a jiffy.

Archbishop Francis J. Spellman of New York, on his recent tour of North African battlefronts, said mass for the men at the Fifty-seventh Fighter Group of the United States Army Ninth Air Force. This Air Force group is located "somewhere in Tunisia" and they are the boys who scored the biggest victory in the history of aviation, knocking almost 100 Axis transports and fighters out of the skies on one engagement. The archbishop held mass in a plane revetment at the Fifty-Seventh fighter base. The altar was set up and mass held on the spot. He said mass whenever and wherever there were boys who were interested in hearing one. Attendants at the mass were Major C.H. Logue, Catholic priest from Cleveland, Ohio, and Capptain J.E. McCarrity, Paulist priest from New York City and Air Force chaplain. They are seen in some of the pictures

Gasoline rationing. Previous to the adoption of the new "A" gasoline ration books, service station and garage attendants were often deluged with calls from motorists requesting the reservation of specified amounts of gasoline. Here, the manager of a cooperative filling station records such an entry from a regular customer. The rationing system was designed to alleviate this condition

Two little shoes found in the pockets of a mortally wounded Belgian soldier, have touched the heart strings of the nurses, attendants and physicians in the French Hospital where he lies at the point of death. The story of the shoes is a heart stirring one. With a letter they were found in this Belgian cyclists pocket. The letter was addressed to his wife from whom he had been separated since the destruction of Termonde, their home. In tender words he penned the message stating that he was enclosing a pair of shoes (hanging at the head of the bed) for their three year old baby with the money he had earned as a scout in King Alberts army. The tenderness of the letter and the mute pathos of the little shoes have moved every one in the hospital to employ every known agency of skill, science, and hard work, to snatch the brave soldier from the pathway of the "Grim Reaper" and restore him if possible to his little family. The incident is probably the most touching one yet met with by the hospital attendants
