The Eighth Annual International Broadcast of 'Merry Christmas' to children of all nations from sons and daughters of diplomats stationed here in Washington got under way tonight at 5:00 p.m. The broadcast was sponsored by the Washington Board of Trade's Greater National Capital Committee in cooperation with the National Broadcasting Co. New oversize trailer for war workers. Here's an answer to the problem of transporting defense workers to outlying defense plants. It's the new, oversize bus trailer made almost entirely of non-critical materials which held its Washington premiere on April 13. Hauled by an ordinary one-and-a-half-ton truck tractor, it holds 141 persons and was designed and built by Office of Defense Transportation and War Production Board (WPB) officials with the cooperation of private companies. Weight of the trailer is 12,000 pounds as compared with 17,000 pounds for a standard type 40-passenger city bus. The complete unit is fifty-five feet long

Hams now aged in 6 to 10 weeks. College Park, Md. Oct. 27. No longer is it necessary to age ham a year or so to obtain that sharp, pungent, cheesy flavor in the lean meat, so characteristic of southern style ham. Speeding up nature, the Maryland Experiment Station, University of Maryland, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has developed a process by which it is possible to produce some of these characterisitc flavors in hams in relatively short time--6 to 10 weeks--by holding them at temperatures from 107 F to 125 F in specially constructed incubator. 1. The first step in the process is the thorough curing of the hams, three days being allowed for each pound of ham being cured. Mr. F.D. Mary Petillo, forelady of a Newark, New Jersey factory making lamp bulbs and tubes for the Signal Corps, is an active member of her plant's laboratory management committee. The committee, set up in cooperation with the War Production Board's drive to speed victory, was elected in Mary's plant from a personnel of 1700, 350 of them men. Cairo's A.R.P at practice and in training. Britain has presented Egypt with the sum of 1,000,000 pounds for the general protection of the city from air attack. All work is carried out by the Ministry of Civil Defence, which in cooperation with police and military authorities has now organized A.R.P measures so well that the city is thoroughly organized to meet any eventuality. Medical services are controlled by Dr. Sidi Bey Araf, director of government hospitals in Egypt and Dr. Fanous, assistant medical liaison officer to the Ministry of Civil Defence. Over 100,000 persons have been trained in auxiliary fire service work and additional training is constantly in progress at the Cairo Fire Brigade Headquarters where a special emergency section exists under the leadership of Steffel Bey. Here's an answer to the problem of transporting defense workers to outlying industrial plants: It's the new oversize bus trailer made almost entirely of non-critical materials which held its Washington premier April 13. Hauled by an ordinary one-and-a-half-ton truck tractor, it holds 141 persons, and was designed and built by the Office of Defense Transportation and War Production Board (WPB) officials with the cooperation of private companies. Weight of the trailer is 12,000 pounds as compared with 17,000 pounds for a standard type 40-passenger city bus. The complete unit is fifty-five feet long
