Whittemore, Chief Justice of the Engineering Mechanics Sections, U.S. Bureau of Standards, has been awarded the Edward Longstreth medal for his work in developing this device for testing the machines which in turn test construction materials. Slowie, of Iowa, has been named to the much sought-after post of secretary of Federal Communications Commission. Slowie succeeds Herbert L. Pettey, who resigned sometime ago to direct a New York radio station. Mr. Slowie is now secretary to Rep. William S. Jacobsen. of Iowa, 4-29-37

White House cops win medals in pistol shoot. Washington, D.C. June 10. In the International Police Pistol shoot held at Philadelphia, P.A. June 5th the team from the White House Police Force placed 11th out of 75 teams. Photo shows Capt. C.L. Dalrymple presenting John J. Cash with his medal. Cash scored 298 out of a possible 300. The others in the picture are: Hugh W. Francis, Richard Hallion, Herbert L. Marcey, Edgar L. Warden, Earl Reynolds, Roland Ford, and Lieut. Larry Seaman all of the White House Police Force. 6/10/37
