Mr. John Oiveira, a dairy farmer near San Leandro, California. His parents were born in Portugal but he and his son, Mr. A.J. Oliveira, who is cashier of First National Bank of San Leandro, were born in the United States. The Portuguese people have become important in the dairying business throughout the entire state of California and now control at least seventy percent of the dairy business of the state. Mr. Oliveira milks about seventy cows daily. "Our favorite stories when I was a child were those which my father and mother told us about their homeland of Portugal. My wife and I have had a good life in the U.S. and we are proud to see our son an honored man of the community. All of us, we are as American as fried chicken now."

He is the director of the hour-long daily program in the Portuguese language over station KROW, Oakland, California. He is also a Minuteman. "For my part, I have always considered it a privilege to be a citizen of this country and in my radio activities I have always felt that it was not only a pleasure, but that I was discharging part of my duty to keep the Portuguese people of this state informed. He continued: "There has always been a bond between the people of Portugal and those of the United States, and now between those of us who have come to make our homes in this country and those of you that have always belonged here, there has been a bond welded so tightly and securely that we are one and inseparable
