Girard-Peterson House, 332 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA

description

Summary

Significance: No. 332 Spruce is one of a row of houses built by Stephen Girard around 1820; today it is home to Charles Peterson, one of the founders and early leaders of the Historic American Buildings Survey. Peterson's 1933 memo regarding the mission of HABS is often pointed to as the moment of creation or born-on date of the program; while the genesis of HABS was the work of many, Peterson's pivotal memo and his support of the survey did much to promote it and sustain it long after the other New Deal programs closed.

Survey number: HABS PA-6710

Building/structure dates: ca. 1820 Initial Construction

Nothing Found.
