Naval Supply Annex Stockton, Police Station, North of Main Gate on Fyffe Avenue, Stockton, San Joaquin County, CA

description

Summary

Significance: Building 17 is a contributing element of the Naval Supply Annex Stockton Historic District. The historic district was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under criteria A and C, for its role in supplying the fleet during World War II and as an important example of new warehouse designs developed by the Bureau of Yard and Docks during World War II. Specifically, the Naval Supply Annex Stockton was the first Navy supply depot to be built entirely to accommodate palletized cargo. Building 17 is not directly related to the palletized supply function. It was, however, an important support building for the depot, serving as a original police station for the depot.
