U.S. Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, Golf Course Equipment & Repair Shop, Reeves & Moffett Roads, Kaneohe, Honolulu County, HI
Summary
Significance: Building 477 was built from Quonset huts which were erected on Kaneohe Naval Air Station during the late years of WWII. Thousands of Quonset huts were erected as temporary buildings worldwide during the war and they became the "archetypical military building type of the war." The Quonset hut is one of the forerunners of the trend to mass-produce building products and standardize erection techniques, and the huts were extensively used at Kaneohe Naval Air Station for housing and training facilities.
