33 1/2 Catharine Street (House), Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA
Summary
Name changed from Catherine Street to Catharine Street, the correct spelling. The original drawings contain the incorrect spelling, Catherine Street.
Significance: The house was one of the remaining frame houses in Philadelphia built before 1796, which marked the introduction of a law prohibiting construction of wooden buildings. Its original wood siding, found in the rear wall, is a good example of 18th century sheathing type.
