Summary
Picture shows Joseph Marie Jacquard, full-length portrait, facing slightly left, seated in an upholstered chair in his workshop; he is holding a drafting compass in his right hand. On a table on the left is a model of a Jacquard loom and punch cards used to create a design in woven fabric; a workbench and tools are visible in the background, as are other implements related to weaving shown on the right. In the upper left is a window with a hole the size of a musket ball in one of the panes.
