Summary

Significance: Bridge No. 249 in Davidson County, is the central member of a long earthen bridge across the backwaters of High Rock Lake. It contains three trusses, a 150 foot Parker truss dividend into eight panels, and 60 foot Pratt pony trusses at either end. Each of the end trusses is divided into five panels. This bridge was erected in 1927 by the Virginia Bridge and Iron Company of Roanoke, Virginia. There are four other similar bridges in North Carolina that consist of a mid-span of trusses with long earthen approaches.
