Summary

Instrument type: Khlui (Vertical Whistle Flute)
Medium: Bamboo, with stained decoration.; 45.45 cm.
Key Holes System: 1/7 holes, plus membrane hole, plus 4 vent holes plus a 5th drilled through a natural septum or node common to such instruments near the bottom.
Mark Maximum: No mark.
Condition: Long crack from base of instrument, plus cracks between each pair of adjacent fingerholes.
Provenance: Curio shop, South Kensington, London, 5 Sept. 1938.

Miller collection in the Library of Congress, contains nearly 1,700 flutes and other wind instruments, statuary, iconography, books, music, trade catalogs, tutors, patents, and other materials mostly related to the flute. It includes both Western and non-Western examples of flutes from around the world, with at least 460 European and American instrument makers represented. Items in the collection date from the 16th to the 20th century.
