description

Summary

Illustrated erotic work.
Manuscript.
Persian.
Title from paper label on spine.
Scribe not identified.
Written in Hyderabad, India.
Paper; beige, rather stiff, heavy paper; the script is in black and red and there are simple red and black framing lines around the texts; there is quite a bit of insect damage in the text pages at the end; the damage has been patched, but amateurly; the patches cover the script, which is still legible through the patches.
Nastaʻliq.
15 erotic illustrations with one apparently missing; all of the paintings seem to be done in rather heavy gouache, possible with watercolor; many paintings are brittle and some are missing entire sections, or they are cracked near the gutters.
[Collation]
Library of Congress. Persian manuscript, M108.
Binding: brilliant blue silk(?) moiré-pattered covers; a strip of mottled black/brown leather, decorated with a gold-patterned border, runs along the edges of the spine front and back covers; the corners are in black leather, also with gold patterned borders; the spine itself is burnished deep brown leather; the inside covers and end papers are pinkish-rose paper.
Also available in digital form on the Library of Congress website.
