description

Summary

Significance: The Hornet Ranger Station forms important historical associations with two federal agencies: the U.S. Forest Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Both of these agencies were instrumental in the regional development of the West during the first half of the twentieth century. / The Ranger Dwelling is a one and one-half story house, 34 feet 4 inches long (N-S) and 33 feet 3 inches wide. It measures 16 feet high from the ground to the peak of the roof. The house consists of eight rooms of modest size. Rooms include three bedrooms, living room, bathroom, kitchen, enclosed rear porch, central hallway, and furnace room. A small crawl space furnishes access to the attic. The building site is spatially arranged with garage and outbuildings to facilitate the efficient use by the ranger.
