Summary
Significance: The Engine House, a repair facility for locomotives, along with the rest of the Jackson Street shops is significant to the development of James J. Hill's Great Northern Railroad. As a group, they are the city's oldest known railroad shop complex. In its early alterations, this building reflects the advent of the diesel engine and it application to railroading as the original structure was extended to accommodate the longer diesel locomotives.
