James Wishart House, State Route 649 vicinity, Lynnhaven, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Significance: Constructed of brick in the English bond pattern, Lynnhaven House sits on a finger of land near the Lynnhaven River and reflects the social and economic status of Francis Thelaball, a middling plantation owner who built it for his family. Architectural and design details including brick jack arches, a closed-spindle staircase with teardrop pendant, and ship's lap floor construction reveal a builder concerned with quality as well as artistry.

The Lynnhaven House is an important example of vernacular architecture as it emerged in the eighteenth-century Chesapeake. The construction date is ca. 1725.
