Mount Hope Road Bridge, Spanning Mount Hope River at Mount Hope Road, Mansfield City, Tolland County, CT
Summary
Significance: Mount Hope Road Bridge is significant as a representative example of early 20th-century bridge engineering and as one of the earliest known products of the Berlin Construction Company, Connecticut's leading fabricator of the period. The bridge's steel material, riveted connections, and Warren-truss design reflect the standardization in bridge engineering that had occurred by the turn of the century. The Berlin Construction Company was started in 1900 by former officials of the Berlin Iron Bridge Company when that firm was absorbed into the American Bridge Company.
