description

Summary

2012 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Honorable Mention
Significance: This log structure served as the original homestead dwelling for Patterson upon settlement. The hand hewn logs originally rested directly on the ground. The structure has been updated by the current owners to rest upon a railroad tie foundation atop a gravel base. The logs display adze marks and are chinked with mortar on the exterior and split poles on the interior. The logs are joined by crowned "V" notching and ends are sawn. The moderately pitched roof was once covered with lichenated wood shingles and had a metal ridge cap with end balls. This has been updated with asphalt shingles over roof sheathing. Square nails are used throughout the structure
Unprocessed Field note material exists for this structure: N1992
Survey number: HABS MT-165-C
