Hull's 6-point program for keeping the U.S. out of war was reiterated, to which Sen. Nye remarked, 'It's the curtain drop. The message presented no new arguments, and repetition of old arguments invites old answers.' Majority leader Alben Barkley said the message 'is in harmony with our traditional policy and ought to receive the overwhelming approval of the country'
