Photograph shows gaff cutter designed by Nathanael Greene Herreshoff and built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, Bristol, Rhode Island, for the 1903 America's Cup. The man at the wheel of Reliance is the famous Charlie Barr, winner of multiple America's Cup races, and the Kaiser's Cup race of 1905 when he drove the schooner Atlantic to a trans-Atlantic record time that stood for nearly 100 years.
