Significance: This country house of Stephen Girard (b. 1740-d. 1831) a French-born Philadelphia merchant, financier, and first American multimillionaire philanthropist, was the site of his early 19th century scientifically run "farm-garden." Imported hardware and notable "French" details were incorporated in the later addition.
