Summary
Significance: Facility 42 is significant for its architecture and its history. Its design has elements of the Art Deco and Art Moderne styles associated with 1930s architecture in Hawaii. The building is associated with the expansion of facilities for what was then called the Fleet Air Base at Ford Island, in the period preceding World War II. Facility 42 also served a vital role in preventing further damage in the aftermath of the December 7, 1941 attack on Ford Island.
